Auto repair shops: get paid for your records

Last updated October 16, 2026

An auto repair shop writes up every car that comes through the door. After a few years, that is a long record. Some of it has a buyer. Here is what counts, what you keep, and how it works.

Which records count

This is our own description of what an auto repair shop usually keeps, not a list from any buyer:

  • repair orders, from the complaint to the fix;
  • estimates, and what changed once the car was on the lift;
  • inspection notes and photos;
  • parts records;
  • service history, vehicle by vehicle;
  • scheduling and CRM history.

Polyshares decides what it licenses.
